Übercaster’s beta launch is less than two days away and they’ve posted some new tutorial movies in their movies section.
The first movie shows how to produce a basic podcast with Übercaster. In the second and thrid movie you’ll see some more advanced features, like creating an enhanced podcast and recording a Skype audio chat.

It’s no secret that like radio, podcasting enables a theater of the mind. Creating a mood or sense of place can often rely on good sound effects or “SFX” as they are called in the movie, television and radio business.
I’ve stumbled upon a collection of high-quality, free SFX at a website called The Recordist. The files are in MP3 format and will work on either a Windows or Mac. I downloaded several of the sounds and found the jet engines and cars very good.
While it’s far from a complete set that would meet everyone’s needs, The Recordist offers a good starting point for any new podcaster and you can’t argue with the price.

Think Secret is reporting that Apple’s Keynote will feature podcasting tools in version 4.0. I have been hearing from more and more people who use podcasts to provide snapshots of their presentations. This could get very interesting if true and will no doubt serve to make the entire podcasting/presentation space more important.

A German company is trying to dethrone GarageBand 3.0 as the preferred Mac podcasting platform. Übercaster is billed by its makers as a “complete production suite for podcasting on the Macintosh.”
Übercaster offers podcasting-specific features and offers to integrate podcast production by allowing podcasters to:
- Define multiple microphones and special input panels for iChat, Skype and Gizmo recording.
- Enter an optional “Stealth mode” that enables users to trigger clip actions by pointing on the panels.
- Edit shows in a full featured and easy to use multi track editing environment.
- Encode podcasts as MP3, (enhanced) AAC or AIFF in one mouse click.
Übercaster comes from the same company that made ShowMacster. Übercaster Beta will be available July, 24th 2006. Podcasters are welcome to join the beta phase.
If nothing else, Übercaster is going to win the award for the coolest name in software.

P.S. It’s my policy not to officially review Beta products but I will keep you updated on Übercaster and let you know what I think about it when it goes live.
