Since the advent of iTunes 4.9, (the current version is iTunes 6), podcasters have had the ability to make enhanced podcasts. These are podcasts that include chapter markers, photos, graphics or movies. You can even embed hot links to web sites within the enhanced podcast track. (I’ll cover more on how to make enhanced podcasts in a future post.)

How are people using enhanced podcasts? A quick look through the iTunes Music Store shows that how-to podcasts are popular and they are the easiest connection to the enhanced cast. Here are some specific applications.

*Remember flash cards? Now you can have them in a podcast, supported by audio.

*Marketing types are using the enhanced podcast to flash logos and pictures of products at people.

*Photographers are using the enhanced podcast to show their portfolio, with music no less.

*Sightseeing podcasts are popular. Travel experts do “walk throughs” at popular tourist destinations while narrating the podcast.

Can you think of ways that you would use an enhanced podcast? If so, I’d love to hear about them. Send me e-mail to info@podcastingtricks.com.
